Sucker Punch

November 20th, 2011

Sucker Punch has a lot of things going on, sadly little of it adds any depth to the story. The visual effects are at times impressive, and the film is filled to the brim with them, but the actual storytelling is flat and doesn’t engage. The film’s constant attempts to appear more complex than the story warrants, and the lack of any sense of urgency or risk, left me feeling uninterested. The camera work isn’t much to talk about and the film is heavily color graded, again to little affect. This could be a good time for someone to tell Zach Snyder not to touch the script, and maybe lay off the slow-motion a little. If played at full speed, I believe the movie would be about 40 minutes shorter.
